Could 2008 be your lucky year – the one in which you fulfil your dreams, improve your trading, increase prosperity and feel happier? Can changing your thoughts and attitudes be the way to make your dreams come true? Here are some ideas that may help.

Start with looking at your thoughts in the areas of finance, money, income, markets and trading. To get a new outcome, you have to rewrite your agreement with reality. You form a brand new agreement with yourself that says: “There is nothing that is not possible for me. I can attract abundance into my life. Others before me have done this. So can I.” Visualise yourself being the way you want and never let that picture out of your head. Envisage yourself behaving like a super trader, a successful trader, a master trader. If you hold those thoughts in your mind, you'll act on them. Every thought you have either makes you stronger or weaker. Every thought you have takes you further away from your dreams or brings you closer to your dreams.

Create an image of what you want for yourself, then act as if you are who you want to be. Catch yourself verbalising self-defeating thoughts, stop labelling yourself. At the start of your day, during the day and before you go to bed, bring that positive image forward. See it, feel it, hear it and experience it.

Practice the art of detachment and call your disappointments, losses and setbacks “one of life's great lessons.” Detach from the opinions of others; from the habit of judging or controlling others; from the past; from the need to be right and to win. Your ego and your ongoing struggle to make an impression on others gets in the way of your trading. Detach from the outcome and focus on your passion, your work, your analysis, your trading plan, your results.

Let us use dancing as an example. When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way. That's what trading is. That is what life is. There is no one single event or one single trade that will make you happy. It is the process, the studying, the analysing, the experiencing of the markets that is the joy and the happiness. It's what you bring to trading.

But you don't have the time to do any of that! If you don't take time to raise your standards you will continue giving excuses for why you are where you are. It really is up to you.
